Alex Summers + things you said after we fell in love
The late afternoon sunlight slides gracefully across the floor, casting long shadows over the room. The two of you are tangled together on the couch. Alex’s arms are securely around you, your back against his chest and your head tucked into the crook of his neck. You’re not sleeping, not really, but the room feels decidedly drowsy as he idly traces nonsense patterns over your skin.
“You ever think about the future?” His voice is soft and thoughtful. You turn your head to press a gentle kiss to the underside of his jaw, feeling his pulse beating there, steady and sure.
“A little” You murmur against his skin. “What do you think it’ll be like?” You ask, and there’s a momentary lull in the conversation. He hums thoughtfully and you feel it like a low rumble in his chest.
“I hope it’s like this,” he says after a while. “I know I’ll stay with you forever but I hope the future’s quiet for us.”
“Maybe,” you agree. “I think as long as I get to keep you, I don’t really mind what happens.” You twist in his arms till you’re facing him and you lean down to press your lips to his. Alex’s arms tighten reflexively around you, and the kiss is sweet and slow and unbearably tender. He pulls you close, his lips moving unhurriedly against yours, as if the two of you have all the time in the world to spend wrapped up in each other. His fingertips glide lightly up and down your spine, and one of your hands drifts up to cradle his face, your thumb brushing across his cheekbone. You let out a small sigh of contentment, and you feel the corner of his mouth pull up into a small smile as you pull back slightly.
“I’m so in love with you,” he whispers. “You’re beautiful and kind and so damn good for me and I’d do anything for you.” His blue eyes are gentle and his voice is low and intense and so full of love it makes your chest tighten.
“I love you. I’m in love with you. Will be forever, I reckon.” Your heart is so full you think it might stop and you want to make him understand the depth and breadth and intensity of your feelings for him, but your words are too clumsy, too casual, so you don’t say any more, you just lean in to kiss him once more, allowing your world to centre perfectly and completely on Alex.
